Saanich West the largest area of the district of Saanich. Saanich offers many hiking trails, three lakes for fishing, swimming and one is the home of Canada's Rowing team.
There are many walking, hiking and cycling trails in the area. Including the Galloping Goose trail that runs from Victoria all the way out to Sooke and out to Saanich that links to the Lochside trail that will take you out to Sidney. Some cyclist use this trail for commuting to work all year round.

Prospect Lake is more of a residential lake. There are many homes around the lake with docks and small motor crafts allowed on this smaller lake. There is a public park area for access to the lake for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding.
There are two Recreation centres in the Saanich West area. Commonwealth Rec centre is home to two swim clubs, many rec. programs for the whole family. Library etc..
Pearkes is where the skating happens for the area. Also has a library.
